FEATURED WORK
BEYOND FOUR WALLS
This piece challenges the psychological notion of ‘home’. ‘Home’ is a place associated with comfort, where we relax and feel safe. Growing up, I found that moving house became something quite routine, where the typical domestic environment was a place that often changed. To find grounding and peace, I escaped into the outdoors. No matter where we moved, the sky always looked the same, the trees always resembled each other. Getting lost in nature became my home, it became my four walls.
WHITEWASH
In 2015 the world saw a very severe refugee crisis in Syria. The UK Government at the time began a 'Vulnerable Person Allocation' where certain refugees would be allowed access into the country. Certain parts of the country held protests and carried out intense vandalism.
What I have recorded in this series which I call 'Whitewash' are the actions of those covering up the racist vandalism aimed at this refugee crisis. The white paint left as a scar reminds us of our past, as well as celebrating a victory against racism.
